JUST ACT NONCHALANT...

Having my kitchen window facing this tree is a real treat for me. It gives me so many photographic opportunities, especially in this cold weather. As I watch the various birds going about their business, sometimes I'll find that one or two are watching me. This Tufted Titmouse was quite amused with what I was doing as it peered into my window. The tree is very close to the cabin, there's no need to use my zoom. I often wonder what thoughts are going through their little heads as they take in my activities. Here the Titmouse is acting nonchalant as it glances over its' shoulder. After a short time it mosies on over to the feeder...
Then it turns to look at me as if to say.....yes, can I help you? Then just a few feet back over to the tree branch...

I've got my seed , do you mind?...
The heck with her! I'm eating.
Here the Cardinal is surely thinking....is she looking at me?

Yes, she is...doesn't she have anything better to do?
Half of this tree had it's first date with the chainsaw, we're hoping that will do the trick for awhile to maybe buy it a little more time. The tree is in such sad shape, I'm sure it will eventually need to come down. But for now, it hosts some of my favorite entertainment during the winter. The best part is, I don't have to leave the cabin for a front row seat, even these photos were taken from inside. As I'm typing this post our winter storms are beginning to roll in, that's O.K., I've got my kitchen window!

Great shots through your window. The titmouse is one of my favorite little birds. I also take all winter photos of the birds through my window since I have the feeders right there. I notice your windows are a lot cleaner than mine, though:)

Flydragon...I have a confession, a FEW of my windows are cleaner than the others! We removed the screens from those few, too, so I can grab a quick shot if I want. The rest of the windows...mmm??? Thanks for the visit!

I love that photo of the inquisitive tufted titmouse! I bet you could have them eating out of your hand - they are suppose to be as easy to handfeed as the chickadees.

Beautiful captures!! I often take shots through my sliding glass door :)

What great shots you got with the birds. I just love birds. There just so cheery to see during the winter months aren't they? I think I've mentioned in your other post that I've never seen a titmouse before but always wanted to. What beautiful birds. Thanks for sharing your pictures.

With plenty of visitors, don't ever have to worry about you being lonely, Kim ~ you keep beautiful company :)

Lovely captures and a neat story, Kim. They must be feeling so jealous of you, protected from the elements! I think you ought to start a chicken-window birding list to see how many you can record this winter. Hope that tree will continue to give you many birding delights.

Patsi...Thank you, and thanks for stopping by!

Hi Kat...I never was into playing tag as a child! I'll have to think about this one..thanks for thinking of me!

Hello Shellmo...Really?!...I would enjoy being able to hand feed them. My problem that I foresee is that the cats would scare them off. Bandit is always at my heels when I'm outdoors. I can't tell you how many shots I had to re-take because of her or one of the other cats rubbing up against me! Still, I'm going to try it, once we get through this record breaking deep freeze that's being forecast for this week! Thanks for the visit, Shellmo!

Hello Amila...Thank you, my list would probably be fairly short if I soley relied on visits to that tree. It is 8 feet from the cabin, the two feeders are about 2-1/2 feet away from the tree. My cats are right there willing and waiting on those birds, unfortunately. We have discussed possibly moving the feeders. Thanks for stopping by!

Hi Joey...Yes, I have plenty of company from my animals...domestic and wild! It's the human species that I have issues with! Thanks for dropping by and the nice comments!

Kerri...Hello, thank you for the nice comment and visiting me! I'm off to visit you!

Anne...Yes, the birds help to offset the winter blues. They take the place of my dragonfly entertainment(somewhat). The titmouse is a very charming bird and not such a nervous disposition as most other birds. Thanks for the visit!

Lucky you, to have that tree so close to your window! I love your bird photos.

I didn't put out feeders this year, as I wasn't sure birdseed was going to be in the budget all winter. I know that once you start, you can't stop. Next year, though, if things get better.

Your photos are precious! I too have windows where I get a good "bird's eye view" no need to go out into the winter freeze to capture their
portraits!Don't those cardinals look stunning against the snow!!

Hi Vicki...I am glad to have that tree so close, just a week or so ago my husband took down at least half of it. He left the healthier portion intact mostly for my amusement. Maybe, just maybe it'll bouce back this spring, although I have my doubts.

The bird seed can add up, I buy the cheapest and also will crumble up stale bread. Yes, let's hope this New Year improves. Thanks for the visit!

Hello Pseudothemis...It sounds like you're having a rough time since the accident. I'm sorry that you are not healing faster. Keep up with your treatments, maybe soon you will feel better. Rest up!

Do you have many birds in your hills or around your home at this season?....Thank you for your visit, I am glad that you enjoy my photos! Take care.

Hi Nature Girl...When it's as cold as it has been lately...my "birds' eye view" is good enough for me!
The Cardinals?...Yes, such a vibrant contrast! Although this one wasn't pure red, I'm wondering if he was an inmature male or possibly an aging male. Dragonflies will lose color as they age, heck, so do many humans! Thanks for dropping by!

Such beautiful creatures! Great shots. I especially like the cardinal.

Hello Kanak...Thank you, I like the red of the Cardinals, but the Titmice are pretty comical. I'm waiting for a Blue Jay to stop by. Just one! They are very aggresive towards other birds. Thanks for your visit, Kanak...Happy New Year to you!

Of course, you've touched my heart with your birdies...you know they are my favorite things to watch;) I love 'em. And I love looking at your photos. I almost always take my photos through my window. Especially this time of year. I was noticing the other day, some streaks and watermarks on my photos and realized it was time to clean the windows:)
I'm glad you have these pretty birds to watch, Kim:) They are always fascinating!

Thanks, Jan... Now I need incentive to clean the remainder of my windows! It is just way to cold out there for us right now. I went out quickly to take some moon shots. I wonder if a camera shouldn't be used under a certain temp? Hmmm???... if anyone knows, let me know! Thanks for visitng me, Jan, I appreciate it!

Pseudothemis....That's a very good motto to live by. In the end, I feel we are judged by what we learn from our mistakes and how we live our life from lessons learned. Life itself is a gift.

I love it when they stare wonderfully into the camera like that. I hope all is well with your winter storms. We are finally getting some sunshine. Yay.

spookydragonfly said...

Hello Bernie...I've mentioned it before...but they somewhat take the place of my dragons. They were hilarious watching them during the storms. On the snowiest day, they were all out at once feeding. Strange. We have the coldest temps. for daytime highs in decades, and finally today we have a decent amount of sunshine. Thanks for dropping in!

Hi Donna...Yes, I really do. Plus going from a 6.1 to a 10.1 megapixel doesn't hurt either. I'm real curious to see how the higher megapixel shows with my blooms. Thanks for the visit!
