I know that I've already posted this wild turkey photo, but I felt it deserving of another shot of the spotlight...especially since many of us will be enjoying the turkey on Thanksgiving. Interesting note on this creature...last year, there were probably thirty turkeys up in the trees one day. Something spooked them, and they all took off in flight at once. For some reason, one became disoriented and landed in the pond. Of course, I panicked thinking it may drown, as it was struggling. I yelled for my husband and he came over with heavy duty work gloves in an attempt to save the poor thing. Surprisingly, it managed to "swim" to the edge of the pond within a few feet of me, and fly away. I didn't know turkeys knew how to swim, if that's what you call what it did!
Here's a decent size doe wandering just behind the cabin, the rest of her family took off when they spotted my husband at the window, she was a little curious...
and so was this squirrel.

Hi Tom...Thanks, I think it's pretty cool, too! I hope you and Megan have a Happy Thanksgiving as well!
Good thing cats have nine lives!!!!! THese are fun photos! Maria
Hi Maria...Thanks for stopping by this blog, too. Mmmm???...maybe they do have nine lives after all, huh?! Glad you enjoyed the photos. Have A Happy Thanksgiving!
What nice pictures you have here. You always take such great pictures. It must be so nice to live in the woods where you can get close up to all of the animals like that. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
Hi Spookydragonfly,
Patches is such a cool name for a cat! There is an air of confidence in his walk. Has the water level come down in the pond?
I don't know when my pond will be completed! Hopefully before 16 Dec when I start a Christmas Birding tour.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Loved the shots but the one with that cheeky mischievous feline furball of yours ... awesome! I bet they know you're out there on the window, worrying and losing it, but they just can't help enjoying the fact that they own us ! LOL
Happy Thanksgiving!
Hi Anne... Thank you, I do enjoy observing the wildlife, just wish the cats wouldn't scare off some of the birds and chipmonks. I suppose you can't have it all! I'm very thankful for what I do have, though. Happy Thanksgiving as well!
Must be Great !!!...just to sit and look out your window.
Daring little kitty...
Happy Turkey Day
Hello Gallicissa...Patches?...she has all the confidence of royalty! She's got a sweet personality, though. Our pond level has been extremely low all year, due to the shortage of rain. Even with our large watershed, our pond level is down almost two feet! So many other ponds around here have lost almost a third of their mass. I hope you have that pond ready in time for your tour...I'm anxious for a photo tour!
Hello Viooltje...You know, I think you're onto something here! My cats are probably having a good ol' time at my expense! Thanks for popping in and commenting!
Hi Patsi...If one cat playing out on the frozen pond isn't bad enough, you should see when a few are out on it! They like to play hide and seek in the cattails. Thanks for stopping in and Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!
If you want to exchange the approaching harsh winter with a tropical dragonfly extravagenza, I will be the happiest to guide you around here!
Hello Gallicissa...A "tropical dragonfly extravagenza" would be great, unfortunately that's not possible to experience in person. But, I am looking forward to seeing your photos from your new pond, it is great to walk out in your "own" world, and have the dragons waiting for you. It'll probably be your most favorite place!
Hi Kim,
Here's a meme that you may or may not want to participate in. The title is "Summer 2008 Inspiration". If you want just visit me or Shady for details.
It's all about having fun !!
Thanks,
Patsi
Beautiful photos, Kim. I love my turkeys at the lake and wondering if you have ever eaten wild turkey? I have yet to prepare one and probably, loving wild ones the way I do, not enjoy the feast. Do hope your Thanksgiving was wonderful.
Hello Joey...Thank you for stopping by and no, I have not eaten a wild turkey. I don't allow hunting in our woods. Sometimes when I eat any meat, if I think about where it came from as I'm eating...I just can't finish it. I really do have issues, don't I?! My youngest daughter is a strict vegetarian and animal lover, she's been working on me for a few years now! My Thanksgiving was great...hope your Thanksgiving was a good one, too.
Hello Patsi...Thanks for the invite, I'll have to look into it. Thanks for thinking of me, and I hope you had a good time with family on Thanksgiving!
That is a great turkey shot, well worth a second run for the holiday!
Your cat looks like he's having a great time, walking on water.
;-)
Hello Vicki...Yes, my cats have a grand time out there on the pond, playing in the cattails with eachother, too. Hope your Thanksgiving turned out O.K. despite your major upset...thanks for stopping by!
